Must Watch

Mar 2, 2010 under Movies | 18 Comments

I am not really a movie buff. You may wonder why I always join TCP or Tuesday Couch Potatoes, it is the reviewing part that I enjoy the most. Actually every tie I watch a movie, my mind is working overtime, watching it and scrutinizing it. I take note what I love about it and what I find too painful to watch. But before watching any movie, I try as much to research about it and at least build my expectations on it. From my movie researching, I have learned that I prefer reading about it than watching it. And also from movie researching, I have learned that there is a movie documentary about Mesothelioma Cancer. The movie is a documentary film about the workers and families in Libby Montana. I have not seen it yet but I am really curious. It’s about the people in Libby and their exposure to asbestos and its effect. I have read some good reviews about it, so now it is on my must see movie list.

That’s how my usual researching goes, jumping from one movie to another and discovering movies that spark an interest in me.

TCP: School Is Fun

Mar 2, 2010 under Movies | 16 Comments

Today, we can slouch and stop thinking.. it’s TCP day! Theme this week is school fun or any movie that involves school. The latest movie I have seen (thank you very much HBO) that involves school was The House Bunny.

It’s a comedy chick film but it also involves school. Shelley is a house bunny. She just turn 27 and was booted out of the mansion because she considered old. Homeless, jobless, she wanders around, end up in a University. She saw a house, a smaller version of The Mansion. It was the house of the most popular sorority in the campus. She wanted to have a room in that house but her look, the sorority girls rejected her. One of the house mother of the sorority suggested another house. She went to the Zetas house, turns out that the sorority’s members are all losers and they are facing eviction from their house. Shelley was accepted to be their house mother. Shelley did everything to make the girl popular and as they do, they changed and blamed it all to Shelly.

I love this movie because it is very light and very heartfelt. I love Shelley’s character. She is dumb and yet she is very nice. She just accepts everything and always see the lighter side of everything. Have you seen this movie TCPers?

Holy Week Schedule 2010

Mar 1, 2010 under Uncategorized | 27 Comments

Since I still don’t have a post for today (no products to review yet), I’ll just make this Monday post a very quick one. Sissy has been asking me when is Holy Week, so here, Holy Week Schedule for 2010.

Ash Wednesday happened last February 17, 2010.. so we count forty days later or just browse the net.LOL

Palm Sunday (and I hope I can attend a mass this time, last time we were on our way to Baguio.. I am dying to test my photography skill on this day) falls on March 28 2010.

Holy Monday is March 29, 2010

Holy Tuesday is March 30, 2010

Holy Wednesday (where a procession is held in our town every year.. and I also wanna be there so I can put my DSLR into action… can’t wait!) falls on March 31, 2010.

Maundy Thursday is April 1, 2010. This is the time where the washing of the feet of the Apostles are remembered through a mass and a reenaction. Also, on Thursday night, people visit churches, a tradition known as Visita Iglesia. It also interesting to note that people from Metro Manila, walk to visit the famous Antipolo church, some I knew came as far as Quezon City and Mandaluyong.

Good Friday falls on April 2, Black Saturday is on April 3 and Easter Sunday is on April 4.

I love Holy Week, not for any other reason but for art’s sake. I believe Holy Week is one of the most artistic week in the Philippines. This is when faith, religion, arts, culture and passion come together to create a history. Eye super loveit!

Along Came Insurance

Feb 27, 2010 under Movies | 9 Comments

As I have said before, Internet has been really friendly to us. In a click or two, we can find what we are looking for. Just last night, I was toss and turning, thinking about a Ben Stiller movie where in he works for an insurance company. I can’ t remember if they offer whole life insurance but he was one the analyst or the likes in that company. So what’s the next logical thing to do? Snap out of bed and search for that movie LOL. I just typed in Ben Stiller and insurance and I got Along Came Polly! That’s the title of that movie!

I so love this movie. Jennifer Aniston plays Polly and Ben Stiller plays Reuben Feffer an insurance underwirter (see, I told you it’s about insurance). His job means calculating the risk that a client can do to the insurance company, more like, he decides if a person is insurable  or not. Because of that job he knows the risk, even how risky it is to eat on peanut bowls on bars. He was married as the film opens but while on their honeymoon, he caught his wife with another man. Broken hearted, he wen t with his best friend (who has been a child actor) and met Polly in one of their parties. Polly is a very spontaneous person and unlike him, risk is life to her. I love how the movie end and I so love the part where Reuben eats a peanut from a street vendor and not only that, he even scratch the peanut on the floor. ewe!
