Love Happens

Are you a quidnanc? Quidnanc is a person eager to learn news and scandal; gossipmonger

Or have you experienced hearing poppysmic? No? that’s the sound produced when you smacked your lips.

How about watching a movie you thought a love film but turns out better than a love story? Na ah? Well you should see Love Happens.

Love Happens stars Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhart. Jen Aniston plays Eloise, a man hater who likes to pretend she’s deaf and a flower shop owner. Aaron Eckhart plays Burke, author of the best selling self help book, A OK. The movie was set in Seattle (but heard it was shoot in Vancouver). The two met when Burke went to Seattle for his sold out seminar about healing. Burke lost his wife and to help him cope up with his loss he wrote the book. Eloise was the hotel’s florist. Their first meeting was not good, their second was bad and their third was the worst. Can Eloise discover Burke’s darkest secret? Or can Burke make Jen trust men again? Can Love Happen on them?

As I always do, I never run to cinemas empty handed. Before I watch a movie, I make sure that I knew something about it. I read a lot of reviews before watching it which helps in focusing on the good part of the movie rather than blind watching (you don’t know what you got yourself into). Most of the reviews I heard are just A OK but interestingly a lot tells that this movie is not a love story at all. I was really curious on how the title worked as such and yet the movie is not a love story. When the movie started, you can already sense it is not your typical mushy, cheesy love film. Burke won’t sweep you off your feet with romantic antics, hell yeah, there has not been any romantic antic on the movie. At the course of the movie, you will wonder, why it is titled Love Happens when in fact there is not much visible love on the two. Or maybe that is the main point of the movie, that whatever reservations they both have, their attraction won’t just go away. Or maybe for me Love Happens when there is a very obvious sexual attraction on the lead characters and sex happens, which does not on the movie.

The movie was focused on loss and how to deal with it and be A OK. Although in reality, some of the suggested self help are not your usual move on move, it sure does help. Those are my favorite scenes actually, the hardware store which Burke helps an ex contractor regain his self back through hardware shopping. Coolness. Yeah, it won’t help him heal instantly, but you see, this guy lost his son with one of his tool, and since then he can’t even enter a hardware store, much shop there. Although Burke has a deep dark secret, audience are very well clued by that. It was very obvious and Eckhart played that part well. Eloise on the other hand, does not justify her supposed to be man hater role. Although at first few meetings suggested that she does not want to get involve, it was not enough to support her role being a man hater. Or am I misinformed? Jen was a good actress still and a very good dresser too.

For sure all movie goers who opted to see this one, would come with a smile on their face and an eagerness to hear how a poppysmic sounds. Or have you tried doing it?

The sound track of the movie was not noticeable. Is there any? I can’t really remember if I heard a tune that I can say, oh that song was from Love Happens..

This movie is good for couples who can’t decide whether to watch a horror film or a cheesy romance, I mean both you and your partner will surely enjoy this movie, so yeah, go for it this Valentine’s
