TCP: Jesus Christ Superstar

Dec 15, 2009 under Meme, Movies | 7 Comments

TCP for this week is about Movie Musicals. My favorite movie genre! I can go on and on talking about my favorite movie musicals. I really like watching musical as I am very emotional person. I really enjoy how much each performance conveys the emotion of the character. Remember when the Phantom of the Opera sung The Music of the Night? You can feel how much he wants Christine and how obsessed and loving he can be. How about when they sing Dancing Queen in Mama Mia? Don’t you just want to dance and celebrate the joys of being a woman? See what I mean? In a musical movie the actors and the actresses not only sings but they also act. Before I present to you my most favorite musical, here is a preview:

The video was not from the musical but the song my Marce Seiko sung was from it. No idea? It’s the film Jesus Christ Superstar. That’s my favorite movie musical. I can watch it everyday without getting bored. Every scene is a must watch. Every song is a must hear. I so love this movie and it comes from my favorite era the seventies! I am not qite sure what comes first..is it my love for JCS or for 70′s. Do I love seventies because of Jesus Christ Superstar or do I love JCs because it comes from the 70′s.. maybe the latter.. Bob Marley comes from 70′s too.. OK I am confused again..

JesusChristSuperstar

Jesus Christ Superstar (film) was based on the rock opera on the same name. This was created by the musical geniuses Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The rock opera is based on the last few days of Jesus and highlights the political conflict between him and Judas. It begun on the preparation of Jesus and his followers to enter Jerusalem and ends on his crucifixion. Although it is based on St John’s Gospel account of the last few weeks of Jesus it focuses more on politics and not religion. It also shows some human sides of Jesus and him favoring Mary Magdalene over the others.

I like this movie not because of its religious bearing but because the story is referencing from our usual Bible related stories of Jesus Christ. Aside from that, the entertaining value of this film is just overwhelming. You gotta watch it for you to know how it feels.. but please don’t watch it thinking the religious version because you will be very disappointed.

Bee Movie

Dec 10, 2009 under Food, Movies | 6 Comments

My mom was here last weekend and she brought me some honey. Yum! I never liked honey before. I had bad memories with it. My mom used to make a honey concoction with some ginger on it and calamansi. The sour taste of that concoction left a lasting impression to me, so I thought, honey  was sour and ill tasting. One time she brought us a bottle of it for the kids as honey is good for coughs. And I had the courage to taste it again and boy, I lurve it! I am a late bloomer, I know.. and since that day, she ever fails to brought me a bottle every time she visit us here, and last weekend was her recent visit. I put a table spoon of honey on my chocolate drink, on my strawberry juice and even on my malungay juice (for breastfeeding).Obviously I put it in everything I can and because of that, why not review a movie about honey? BEE MOVIE!

20071218174456_bee-movie

This movie is about Bee, obviously, but with a few twist on it. For one, they can talk and they can even sue human beings! Barry B. Benson is just an ordinary bee who just graduated from college. Together with his friend, Adam Flaymen, they are about to enter hive’s Honex Industries (a division of Honesco Corporation and owned by Hexagon Group) honey-making workforce. Barry’s attitude made it hard for him to just accept the fact that are bound to work forever in the hive. He break the rule of all bees and went with the polen jocks outside their hive. He committed the most serious offense a bee can do, converse with a human being. He even befriend a human, Vanessa and together they made history, suing human for taking their honey and winning the case. Now that all the honeys are back to their hives it seems that every bee has nothing else to do including the polen jocks. And without anyone doing pollination, the plants withered. Now Barry faces another challenge, that is to bring life back everywhere.

First and foremost, I like this movie because it is in my favorite color, YELLOW. I enjoyed watching the part where Barry choose what clothes to wear.. black, yellow, balk, yellow.. it is so fun! Enough of that. Let’s talk about the story of this movie, being a mother, the movie tells a lot and it gives me an excuse to educate the kids about nature. The kids were curious about it and being a good mommy I had to explain the balance of nature, the importance of cycles and what is pollination.

The comedy stints in the movie made it more interesting for my kids. Some of the slap stick scene were really hilarious. My son ho enjoys this kind of comedy act filled our house with his laughter through out the movie. They specially liked scenes where Barry repeats what he says (like black, yellow scene and can’t fly on rain scene). If there is one scene that I don’t get or that I wish was never included in the movie was the part where they were trying to land the plane. And while doing so, and aiming for the flower, they aimed at a man wearing a flower shirt. That was just lame, specially the man’s reaction.

Overall, this movie is a good way to make you laugh and take your mind off for a while but after the movie you won’t feel great as Barry did but you will surely want to take some honey and know how good it is.

TCP: Lord Of The Rings

Dec 8, 2009 under Meme, Movies | 13 Comments

What else can be the greatest outdoor adventure movie of all time but Lord Of The Rings. Now, that’s our theme for TCP this week. And if I have to chose only one movie, then that would be Lord Of The Rings, Return of the King.

I don’t think I can do a good summary of this one. I bet every TCPers knows this movie, specially our host Kikamz. Why I liked this movie? Who would not?  OK  I will change my movie as I cannot make a good summary or even a good review put of it. SO for my real, real entry, my choice is Spiderwick Chronicles.

image

Spiderwick Chonicles is a movie about the adventure of three kids. When their parents separated, they move into the suburbs. The mother, the twin brother and the sister moved to an old house owned by Athur Spiderwick. The other twin discovered a magical book. A book worth more than their lives. It is Arthur’s collected information about mysterious creatures on Earth. It serves like an encyclopedia of all creatures. The book was wanted by an ogre who wants to rule the land. The twin, together with their sister battles the creatures in saving the book. Little did they know, that the book holds more secrets that they can handle.

I really like how the movie turns out. The story is very magical and it was presented in that way too. The characters are great in performing their roles. I love the place where the movie was shoot. The special effects are very clean and believable. Can I also mention that although the movie has some bad creatures on it, it is still cute and kids won’t be scared on watching it. The effects are so lovable and you can almost feel the creatures. I really enjoyed watching this move and even my kids liked it too. I recommend it as a great family movie but do not accept that it has some morals on it as I did not find one.  It is a movie made for entertainment only.

Actor In Paris & Everywhere

Dec 6, 2009 under Local Shows, Movies, People | 13 Comments

Since I can’ think of anything to review today, I thought of reviewing a local actor. Timely, because the actor I am about o review has a local series that is about to end this week. Piolo Pascual of Lovers in Paris. If being a fan means you like the way he act, then I am a fan of this actor. I first noticed him in Lobo. A fantasy series where he portrays the leading actor opposite to Angel Locsin as the leading actress. I like Angel Locsin but never the way she acts. In Lobo, Piolo was able to take out an actress from Angel, she was even nominated fro some international awards for that. That’s when I realized how good Piolo as an actor is. He can make his leading lady act. He can make them feel the real character they are portraying. How can I give that credit to him and not that actress? Oh well, obviously, in every scenes they perform, he take full control of his character and you cannot even tell who is Piolo Pascual. His leading lady has no choice but to level up to his performance. I know you will agree, even in Lovers in Paris, his leading lady, KC Concepcion improved a lot in terms of acting.

Piolo Pascual started his acting career in 1993 (brief appearance in the movie The Vizconde Massacre as Jussi Leino). He was also one of the supporting cast in Batang PX. His debut as an actor and his first break was in the movie Lagarista in 2000. He was nominated as best actor in Gawad Urian and he won the title. His movie was also exhibited in international film festivals. Three years after and he again received an award, but this time not just one but 8 awards for his portrayal of Jules Bartolome in the movie Dekada ’70. This film was also exhibited in international film festivals together with his other movies, Milan. His latest movie, Manila, brought him to Cannes festival and a lot more international film festival.

Other than those films, he also starred on romantic films that made Filipinos smile and fall in love again. Some of those movies were, Dreamboy where he played three characters. Another one is Love Me Again where he plays Migo opposite to Arah played by Angel Locsin. This was their movie after the success of their series Lobo.

Aside from being an actor, he is also a producer. He is actually on of the producer of the movie, Manila He also o produce the comedy film, Kimmy Dora (Kambal sa Kyeme).

His filmography speaks for itself. And just like what I always say, he can make every one feel beautiful with the way he look (when he acts), even if he would be given the ugliest leading lady, he can make the viewers believe he is very in love with that girl. Why don’t you try and see one of his movies and tell me what you think about him. Or try watching Lovers In Paris final week.
